Living Centre

The Living Centre is at the heart of the Crick’s community engagement strategy, and our aspirations for it reflect our ambitions for the new institute. We believe that by working in partnership with the local community, through the Living Centre, the Crick has a unique opportunity both to help improve local health outcomes and to engage the community with the Institute’s work.

A purpose-built, two-floor, 450m2 community space on the Ossulston Street side of the Crick building, the Living Centre will offer a range of services, which could include NHS health checks, exercise classes, adult and community education, and advice services.

The Living Centre will include a large space for sports and exercise activities, as well as two meeting/training rooms, and smaller rooms for one-to-one sessions.

The Living Centre will complement the facilities and organisations already providing high quality services locally. It will be run in partnership with the community.

We have set up a Living Centre working group to involve local people and community groups in the design of the centre and the services it will offer.

Over the next 12 months the Crick will consult the Living Centre working group, the local community and other key stakeholders on their vision for the Living Centre, the services it should offer and how it should be run.

  • The Francis Crick Institute is committed to being a good neighbour and making a positive contribution to Somers Town and, more broadly, the London Borough of Camden.
  • In addition to the Living Centre the Institute has committed almost £10 million to help improve the health, wellbeing and prosperity of the local community.
  • It will also offer training opportunities and at least 40 construction apprenticeships for Camden residents.
