Stem cell and cancer biology

Research opportunity for a postdoctoral clinical fellow in Vivian Li’s lab.

Introduction

Our lab investigates the functional roles of Wnt signalling in stem cells, tissue regeneration and in cancer. With the use of mouse genetics and organoid technology, we have recently uncovered several new Wnt pathway regulators that play important role in intestinal stem cell homeostasis and colorectal cancer (CRC) progression, which could present new therapeutic strategies for CRC. We are currently exploring the functional implication of Wnt activation in plasticity and immunomodulation in the context of intestinal regeneration, cancer progression and therapeutic resistance. We also investigate biomarkers for CRC detection and early diagnosis.

Our lab has also pioneered the use of patient-derived organoids and scaffolds for intestinal tissue engineering. We are developing various intestinal mucosal engineering strategies in the lab that could be used for transplantation as well as modelling diseases such as infection and cancer.
