Introduction

Athena Swan bronze award logo.

In 2019, the Crick was awarded an Athena SWAN Bronze award in recognition of our work to support equality of opportunity and promote diversity across the institute.

The Crick’s Athena SWAN Steering Group is responsible for implementing the action plan developed as part of our application, along with the help of other staff from around the Crick. The team is representative of the overall diversity of the Crick and includes scientific and operational staff and PhD students.

About Athena SWAN

The Athena SWAN charter was originally established in 2005 to encourage a commitment to addressing barriers that affect women in science. Since then, it has expanded its scope and now works to address gender equality more broadly across all academic areas.

A bronze award means that we have demonstrated:

  • An assessment of gender equality in the institution,
  • A four-year plan that builds on this assessment, and
  • The development of an organisational structure to carry these actions forward.

Our application

Our application can be downloaded here.

It includes the data collected as part of the application, as well as the action plan for how we are working to improve our support for diversity around the Crick.
