Quantitative Stem Cell Biology Laboratory

This is a full-time, fixed term position on Crick Terms and Conditions of Employment. The position is initially for a period of 6 months, with the potential of a further 6 month extension.
We are looking for a highly motivated Senior/Laboratory Research Scientist to join the Santos laboratory headed by Dr Silvia Santos at the Francis Crick Institute as a maternity cover. The lab focuses on understanding cell decision-making using embryonic stem cells. Current areas of research include understanding regulatory mechanism of cell division and cellular differentiation. There is a strong focus on single cell analysis, live cell imaging and genomics. The team is currently composed of two PhD students, one undergraduate student and three post-doctoral fellows.

The successful post holder is expected support on-going collaborative research and help with lab management. The ideal candidate is likely to be an energetic, organised individual who thrives to work on interesting biological problems in a highly collegial and collaborative work environment.

Starting date is flexible. The contract is initially for 6 months but potentially renewable (up 12 months).

These include but are not limited to:
- Lead collaborative research projects under the Group Leader’s supervision
- Assist in the smooth running of the lab
- Assist with maintenance of lab inventories and lab’s cell lines
- Assist with ordering and maintenance of lab stocks
- Participate in the lab’s human embryonic stem cell rota
- Improve established protocols and develop new protocols in the lab
- Liaise with other laboratory support staff
- Assist in complying with lab safety regulations
- Keep accurate records of all work carried out
- Attend and participate in group meetings and key talks
- Contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts
The Francis Crick Institute is a biomedical discovery institute dedicated to understanding the fundamental biology underlying health and disease.

KEY EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES
The post holder should embody and demonstrate our core Crick values: Bold, Imaginative, Open, Dynamic and Collegial, in addition to the following:
- Higher degree (MSc and/or PhD) within the Life Sciences (e.g. Molecular and Cellular Biology). Candidates without an MSc or PhD will be considered provided they have substantial experience in lab management and molecular biology.
- Extensive experience with molecular biology techniques is essential. Experience with DNA editing techniques (e.g. CRISPR) is desirable.
- Experience with tissue culture experience is desirable. Experience with embryonic stem cells is an asset
