This is a full-time, fixed term position for 18 months on Crick Terms and Conditions of Employment
Altered metabolism is one of the cancer hallmarks and offers promising opportunities for designing new therapies. One of the biggest challenges in understanding how to target the altered metabolism of tumours effectively is inter and cross-tumour heterogeneity. The project is a part of CRUK Grant Challenge Award funded program and aims to evaluate how metabolic changes are aligned with genetic profiles of tumours using in vivo models and mass spectrometry imaging. The post holder will be a part of the team of researchers in Mariia Yuneva’s lab and will also interact with researchers from National Physical Laboratory and other groups in the Consortium. We are looking for a very pro-active, enthusiastic and well-organized individual to be involved in samples processing and analysis among other responsibilities. An experience with metabolite extraction, tissue sectioning, immunohistochemistry, tissue culture and animal models of cancer is a plus.

Specific objectives of the post holder will include, but not be limited to:
- Preparing samples for metabolomics analysis and analysis of mass spectrometry data.
- Tissue sectioning
- Histological analysis, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence
- Generation and characterisation of organotypic cultures
- Supporting some aspects of in vivo experiments including tumour model generation, maintenance and monitoring, tissue collection and processing.
- Provide technical support to group staff when required
- Regularly attending and participating in scientific meetings in Mariia Yuneva’s lab, several larger interest groups and forums at the Crick as well as Consortium meetings.
- Contributing to the preparation of scientific manuscripts, reports and presentations
- Establish, maintain and improve research protocols and records
The post holder should embody and demonstrate our core Crick values: Bold, Imaginative, Open, Dynamic and Collegial, in addition to the following:
- BSc or PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Cell Biology
- Experience in standard biochemistry and molecular biology
- Experience in culture of primary cells and/or cell lines
- Experience in histology and immunohistochemistry
- Experience with animal handling and small animal surgery
- Experience working with GM mice, mouse cancer models and/or patient derived xenografts
- Holder of UK Animal scientific procedures personal license
- Experience generating stably transfected cell lines (transfection and sub-cloning)
- Experience in metabolomics analysis
The post involves undertaking specific research projects, under the guidance of the Group Leader. Applicants should have demonstrated their ability to carry out independent basic research projects.
