Laboratory Operations Assistant Maternity Cover – Service Delivery

Reports to: Quadrant Manager – Service Delivery

This is a full-time, fixed-term (10 months) maternity cover role on Crick terms & conditions of employment. Core hours are from 8.00am to 4.15pm Monday to Thursday and 8.00am to 4.00pm Friday.

Summary

As a member of the Service Delivery team, the post-holder will provide essential, routine support for the research and Science Technology Platform (STP) laboratories based at the Francis Crick Institute on Midland Road. Laboratory Operations Assistants (LOAs) are typically assigned to one quadrant, but will be expected to work in other areas if required and therefore daily tasks may vary. 

Key responsibilities

These include but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning and housekeeping in the laboratory areas
  • A key role in delivering consumables and other items to members of the research labs
  • Stock management of the quadrant's supply store, including stock checking, updating the stock control book, receiving deliveries and restocking the store areas
  • Collection of waste material from the laboratory area, including preparing hazardous waste for safe disposal
  • Distribution and filling of Liquid Nitrogen vessels. Training will be given.
  • Monitoring and connecting bottled gases. Training will be given.
  • Care and cleaning of scientific equipment and organizing reagents and chemicals. Appropriate training will be provided
  • Any other duties as specified by the Quadrant Manager.
