The process of using knowledge from research to solve human healthcare challenges, for example in the development of safe and effective treatments for patients, is known as ‘translation’.
In order to do this, the Crick's translation team helps researchers by advising them on how to further test their ideas to see if their science could later be helpful to improve human health. They also provide training, and guidance on applying for grants, obtaining patents and putting researchers in touch with entrepreneurs and industrial scientists, such as those at GlaxoSmithKline and AstraZeneca.
The successful student will assist the Translation team in planning how to train scientists in translation. They will learn about the project management involved in coordinating collaborations between academia and the the pharmaceutical industry. They will also assist in reviewing the Translation team webpages.
The successful student would ideally be interested science and business.
