Shaping the future of science: plans revealed

In December 2007, plans were announced to create the UK Centre for Medical Research and Innovation (UKCMRI), a world class research centre that will tackle some of the biggest medical challenges facing the 21st Century.

UKCMRI is a partnership of four of the world's most influential and respected scientific research organisations: Cancer Research UK, the Medical Research Council, UCL (University College London) and the Wellcome Trust.

The Centre will be built at Brill Place, to the north of the British Library in the St Pancras and Somers Town area of north London. The images below provide an artist's impression of how the building will look from Ossulston Street, Brill Place and Midland Road.

UKCMRI will reinforce London's position as a global scientific centre for the 21st century, enable groundbreaking biomedical research, and ensure that Camden and the UK are at the heart of innovation. It will also attract high value investment and create jobs, inspiring a new generation of scientists.
