Lord Willetts joins the Francis Crick Institute Board

Lord Willetts has been appointed as a new independent trustee director of the Francis Crick Institute.

Lord Willetts was the Member of Parliament for Havant, Hampshire from 1992 to 2015, at which time he became a member of the House of Lords. He was Science Minister from 2010 to 2014.

Sir David Cooksey, the independent Chairman of the Board, said: "I am extremely pleased that Lord Willetts will be joining the Board of the Francis Crick Institute. The Crick undertakes ground-breaking research across a range of scientific disciplines linked to human health and helps laboratory discoveries to be turned into treatments as quickly as possible. Lord Willetts' wealth of experience and his support will be invaluable, as we move towards the opening of our new building in 2016 and beyond."

Lord Willetts said: "The Francis Crick Institute is an organisation of national significance. The UK has a proud record of scientific achievement and the Crick is an exciting new opportunity to showcase the world-class research this country is renowned for. I am delighted to be joining the Board"
