The Francis Crick Institute has won the 2016 London First Investment
in London's Future Award, for "a visionary regeneration or
development which reinforces London's competitiveness in the long
term".
The London First Awards celebrate the people, organisations or
companies that have most contributed to making London the best city
in the world to work, study, live and play in during
2015.
Baroness Jo Valentine, Chief Executive of London First, said:
"The standard of entries this year across the awards was very high,
and the Francis Crick Institute'swinning nomination for the
Investment in London's Future Award showed a really exceptional
contribution."
The Crick's COO, David Roblin, who collected the award on behalf
of the Crick at London's Sky Garden last night, said: "The Crick
will make a huge contribution to the health and wealth of London
and the UK as a whole, and we're delighted to have the support of
Londoners and London's leading businesses."
Due to open in summer 2016, the Crick will be a world-leading
centre of biomedical research and innovation. It will promote
connections between researchers, between disciplines, and between
academic institutions, healthcare organisations and
businesses. The Crick's work will help to understand why
disease develops and to find new ways to treat, diagnose and
prevent a range of illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and
stroke, infections and neurodegenerative diseases.
