Sharing Crick career stories with Camden’s primary school children

On Monday 25 April, the Education and Safety teams represented the Crick at the Knowledge Quarter's Primary Careers Conference. Young people aged 9-10, who through their family circumstances have limited access to professionals, were selected from Camden and Islington schools to attend the event at the British Library.

The conference provided a forum for a wide range of local careers to be presented to the children through a series of workshops, stalls and talks. Using iPads, they collected information and recorded their experiences of the day to take back to school to present to the rest of their class. By listening to inspirational speakers, the children learn how the knowledge, skills and values they learn at school relate to different careers, encouraging them to engage more with their school work and broaden their job aspirations.

Danielle Thorburn, Safety Technician, who demonstrated the important role that careers in safety have at the Crick, commented: "The children were really enthusiastic about taking part, and told me repeatedly that the Francis Crick stall was the "coolest by far"! I think they really enjoyed the opportunity to take part in something active, and we were asked very interesting questions."
