Scientists and other staff at the Francis Crick Institute were out in force to greet the UK Prime Minister Theresa May and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. The Prime Ministers used their visit to launch a new £13m Tech Alliance between the two countries and announce £1bn worth of business deals.

They met some of the 33 Indian scientists working at the Crick, as well as getting a flavour of the research taking place here.

Scientists in the Translational Cancer Therapeutics Lab told them about their work on the TRACERx lung and kidney studies, which track the genetic evolution of tumours over time to improve diagnosis and treatment.

The Prime Ministers also met scientists from the Malaria Biochemistry Lab to hear about the growing problem of drug resistant malaria and how researchers are trying to find new treatment targets.

They were greeted by our Chief Operating Officer Dr Sam Barrell.

"It was a real honour telling the Prime Ministers about the amazing work our scientists are doing," said Sam. "The Crick is a unique partnership between government, charity, academia and industry, which attracts leading scientists from around the world, and it is a real privilege to showcase our collaborative research on an international stage."
