How does a living organism acquire form and function?

Standard content

How a single cell becomes a tissue, organ or whole body remains one of biology's most challenging questions. By working out the precise molecular and cellular processes that control development, our scientists are piecing together the puzzle of how the right cells end up in the right place at the right time.

Metabolism provides our cells with energy so that our bodies form and function properly. We’re investigating the role of metabolism in health and in diseases such as diabetes and cancer to come up with better treatments for patients.
