How does the immune system know whether, when and how to react?
The immune system is the body’s major defence against pathogens. When it stops working properly, it can lead to chronic infection, autoimmune diseases and harmful inflammation.
Lots of different cells work together to make up the immune system. Our scientists are studying the molecular signals that pass between immune cells, telling them what job to do, where to go and when to attack.
By understanding the fundamental biology of immunity, we’re getting closer to deciphering what happens when it goes wrong, and are findings new ways to counter its malfunction.
