Anne studied molecular biotechnology at the Ruprecht-Karls-University in Heidelberg and biochemistry as an ERASMUS exchange student at Imperial College London.

For her PhD Anne moved to David Barford’s laboratory, then at the Institute of Cancer Research London, where she investigated the architecture of an E3 ubiquitin ligase, the anaphase promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C).

After completion of her PhD Anne moved to David Morgan’s laboratory at UCSF as a visiting scientist before she started her postdoctoral work in Matthias Peter’s laboratory at ETH Zurich where she became interested in the process of autophagy.

In 2018 Anne became a group leader at the Francis Crick Institute, where she will continue her studies on autophagy.
