Carola Vinuesa

Carola Vinuesa obtained a medical degree at the University Autonoma of Madrid in 1993. She undertook specialist clinical training in the UK and was awarded a PhD by the University of Birmingham (2000).

As a Wellcome Trust International Travelling Prize Research Fellow, she did postdoctoral work in the Australian National University (ANU), where she was appointed Group Leader in 2006, Professor of Immunology in 2010, and Head of the Emerging Pathogens and Immunity Department in 2011. Vinuesa established and directed the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Personalised Immunology from 2014 to 2021.

She has been the recipient of a Viertel Fellowship, the Biogen-Idec Spain 2007 Prize, the Science Minister’s Prize for Australian Life Scientist of the year (2008), the Gottschalk Medal of the Australian Academy of Sciences (2009), the Ramaciotti medal (2014) and the CSL Young Florey Medal (2015).

In 2015, she was elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and in 2020, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences. She is Director of the China Australia Centre of Personalised Immunology at Shanghai Renji Hospital, Jiaotong University.

In September 2021 she joined the Crick as Senior Group Leader and was awarded a Royal Society Wolfson Fellowship. She maintains a fractional appointment at the Australian National University.
