I obtained my BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Surrey with an industrial placement year, spent at UCL in the lab of Prof. Ivan Gout. In this year I investigated the role of Coenzyme A in neurodegenerative diseases involving mutations in the CoA biosynthetic pathway. My PhD in Alex's lab focused on developing new imaging mass spectrometry techniques jointly with the National Physical Laboratory and applying them to biological questions using Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism. In particular, we are interested in the lipid composition of the Drosophila cuticle ("skin"), the mechanisms which regulate this lipid blend, and the consequences of dysregulation.
In my PostDoc in Alex's lab, I am working in close collaboration with the National Physical Laboratory and Electron Microscopy at the Crick on exciting new developments in mass spectrometry imaging technology.
