David Briggs

Principal Laboratory Research Scientist

I'm a senior laboratory research scientist in the Signalling and Structural Biology Laboratory, run by Professor Neil McDonald.

My primary responsibilities are to take care of the X-ray crystallography done by the group and to maintain our mammalian cell protein expression platform. I completed my PhD in X-ray crystallography under David Moss at Birkbeck College, and I have almost 20 years of experience in protein X-ray crystallography. I have worked at various institutions around the UK and maintained in-house X-ray generators and have run institute BAG applications.

I am an active member of the UK crystallography community and sit on CCP4 working group 2.

I have extensive experience with protein-protein and protein-small molecule interaction assays (such as SPR and ITC) as well as other structural biology techniques such as small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS).

My primary research interests are in structure-function relationships in mammalian extracellular proteins and protein-sugar interactions.
