Dimitra is a medical doctor and her clinical and research interest lies in gastrointestinal oncology and especially colorectal cancer. She graduated from the Medical School of the University of Thessaly in Greece and has been trained in Medical Oncology both in Greece and the UK. She joined the Ciccarelli group in 2016, funded by a BRC/NIHR Clinical Research Fellowship. In 2017 she was awarded a Clinical Doctoral Fellowship by the Health Education England Genomics Education Programme.
Dimitra’s project aims to find new targets for the treatment of colorectal cancer. She is working with three-dimensional models (organoids) derived from patients’ tumours and using cutting-edge techniques such as CRISPR Cas9 gene editing to validate therapeutic targets.
