In 2014, Eachan Johnson received his DPhil in Chemical Biology from the University of Oxford, working with Prof Luet-Lok Wong. There, he studied protein-protein recognition in cytochrome P450 electron-transfer complexes using a range of biochemical and new structural biology techniques.
He then moved to Cambridge, MA to work with Prof. Deborah Hung at the Broad Institute on the intersection of chemical biology with genetics of M. tuberculosis, the causative agent of tuberculosis. There, he devised new methods for rapidly assigning mechanism of action to small molecule inhibitors of M. tuberculosis growth.
In 2021, Eachan will establish his lab at the Francis Crick Institute, developing precision chemical tools for dissecting the molecular and systems biology of pathogenic bacteria.
