George trained for his PhD in the Molecular Biophysics Group at the University of Liverpool which he completed in 2019. During this time, he worked on the structure-function characterisation of the heteromeric amino acid transport, LAT1-CD98hc, a membrane protein that is the focus of drug development for targeted drug delivery to tumours and blood-brain barrier. After completing his doctoral training  he immediately joined the Molecular Cell Biology of Autophagy Laboratory as a postdoctoral training fellow, where he is continuing his training and applying his experience with membrane protein purification and structural characterisation to address open questions regarding the molecular mechanisms of macroautophagy.
