Georgia Whitton

Senior Bioinformatician - Bioinformatics & Biostatistics

Georgia is a Senior Bioinformatician currently working in the core Bioinformatics & Biostatistics STP.

Overview

I am a multi-modal bio data scientist with experience in genomics, transcriptomics and image analysis. My scientific interests are domain agnostic: I am excited by interesting questions and interesting data from interested people. As a methodical problem solver and keen communicator I creatively utilise computational tools to process, analyse and visualise biological data.

My time at the Crick

Georgia joined the Crick in July 2013 where she first worked in the Cancer Dynamics Lab until February 2015 as a Bioinformatician, developing nextflow pipelines for processing and analysing immunofluorescence image data of renal tumours.

Prior to Crick

I trained in Data Science at the Wellcome Sanger Institute where I worked in Genomic Surveillance of both Malaria Parasite and Covid-19 during the pandemic. You can read more about my time at Sanger here.

Teaching & Learning to code

I am a strong advocate of developing coding skills early on in scientific careers. I have taught several data science bootcamps with Code First Girls and regularly aim to disseminate the often intimidating world of bioinformatics.
