Jasmin did her undergraduate degree in Biomathematics at RheinAhrCampus Remagen (Fachhochschule Koblenz/Germany). In the course of writing her Bachelor’s thesis she did an internship in Charles Swanton’s Translational Cancer Therapeutics Lab at Cancer Research UK, where she also worked closely with the Bioinformatics group led by Aengus Stuart. After a short while at Fraunhofer SCAI in St. Augustin/Germany and the Bonn-Aachen International Center for Information Technology (b-it) in Bonn/Germany, Jasmin moved to London. In early 2017 she gained her PhD from Queen Mary University of London, during which she used next-generation sequencing data to study hybridisation in birch trees. As part of the PhD, which was funded by the EU Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) INTERCROSSING, Jasmin spent six months at CLC bio, a Qiagen company, in Aarhus/Denmark. Jasmin joined the Turner lab in 2016 as a bioinformatics postdoc. Apart from helping other lab members with the analysis of their NGS data, her own project involves the investigation of the role of genomic organisation in metatherian X chromosome inactivation. Using Hi-C, ATAC-seq, and RNA-seq, she is looking at genome-wide interactions in the opossum genome with a particular focus on the region of X chromosome inactivation.
