Historically, disease-causing pathogens have been investigated as isolated entities in an effort to characterise their mechanisms of action. It has become apparent in recent years, however, that bacteria are biosocial beings, interacting with different species of microorganisms and influencing each other in fascinating ways. Therefore, my work involves studying metabolic interactions between two prominent respiratory bacterial pathogens - Streptococcus pneumoniae and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
