Mariia Yuneva obtained her PhD from Moscow State University in Russia in 2002. She worked in the laboratory of Alexander Boldyrev studying the role of oxidative stress in different pathological processes including ischemia, hypoxia and ageing.
Mariia then joined the laboratory of Yuri Lazebnik at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, New York, as a postdoctoral fellow to work on understanding the mechanisms of nutrient dependence of oncogene-transformed cells.
In 2005 she moved to the laboratory of J. Michael Bishop at the University of California, San Francisco, to continue her studies of the relationship between metabolism and oncogene-induced transformation in mouse models of cancer.
