Merima Mehic

Visiting Scientist

I obtained my PhD in cell- and molecular biology at Uppsala University in Sweden, where I studied the signalling interactions between growth factor receptors and the extracellular matrix in cancer. I joined the Developmental Signalling Laboratory at The Francis Crick Institute in 2019, where my research is focused on the Transforming Growth Factor beta (TGFb) family signalling in cancer. I am employing CRISP-based genome editing, biochemistry and state-of-the-art microscopy techniques to study the signalling mechanisms downstream of a mutated BMP receptor, found in a rare genetic disorder (Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva) and an aggressive childhood midline glioma DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma).
