Rikuto Shinohara

Rikuto Christopher Shinohara is a psychiatrist and scientist.

Rikuto obtained his MD from Hokkaido University School of Medicine in 2020 and completed his residency in 2022. He completed his Japanese psychiatry fellowship in 2025 at the Department of Psychiatry, Hokkaido University.

Alongside his clinical training, he has been engaged in basic neuroscience research investigating the relationship between inflammation and positive symptom-like behaviours using a mouse model of schizophrenia.

He joined the Crick in April 2025 and is interested in exploring mechanisms of hallucination-like perception. His goal is to use experimental neuroscience to better understand the neural mechanisms that underlie psychiatric disorders and improve therapeutic interventions.
