Steve Gamblin
Director of Research Infrastructure
Steve Gamblin is a graduate of Bristol University, where he studied Biochemistry as an undergraduate and then enzymology and crystallography with Herman Watson for his PhD.
Steve then moved to Steve Harrison’s laboratory at Harvard University, and completed his postdoctoral training in protein crystallography.
In 1994 he returned to the UK to establish his laboratory at London’s MRC National Institute for Medical Research in the newly formed Division of Protein Structure. Here he used structural biology techniques to investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms of proteins implicated in disease processes.
He was appointed Joint Head of the Division of Molecular Structure in 2005, and Director of Research at NIMR in 2011. In 2015 he took on the role of Director of Science Operations at the newly formed Francis Crick Institute in London, and is now Director of Scientific Platforms.
He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, a member of EMBO, and has been awarded the Feldberg Prize for 2012. Steve was elected to a Fellowship of the Royal Society in 2011.
