I recruit PhD students via the Crick PhD programme and Crick clinical PhD programme. I am also a supervisor on several external PhD programmes, including LIDo and the UCL Wellcome PhD in Mental Health Science.

Doctoral clinical fellows

Applications should be submitted through the Doctoral Clinical Fellow recruitment process. Potential project(s) available through this programme are listed below.

Potential PhD project

Any project that relates to the core interests of the lab would be potentially available i.e. projects that relate to understanding how mitochondria regulate neuronal function and how this is altered in neurological disease. This can include how mitochondria interact with other intracellular organelles and how mitochondria might shuttle between different cells within the brain. We study this in the context of several neurological conditions including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, frontotemporal dementia and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

We are also interested in developing xenotransplantation models of Parkinson’s disease in a project that would be co-supervised by Lorena Arancibia Carcamo.

Potential co-/secondary supervisors

Lorena Arancibia Carcamo would co-supervise the xenotransplantation project

Secondary supervisors for other projects would be determined by the interests of the applicant and by scientific fit

Candidate profile

These projects would suit clinicians interested in the latest approaches to modelling human neurological diseases. Training and support will be provided for the acquisition of techniques required for the project, and so prior experience in animal and/or iPSC experiments is not essential. We are particularly keen to recruit clinical fellows that have a willingness to learn new approaches and who are enthusiastic about the problems that we are working on.
