The Stem Cells and Organoids Platform (SCOP) is dedicated to advancing innovative research in human stem cell biology and organoid technologies to accelerate how human biology is modelled and studied.

We operate by facilitating research excellence via provision of services, and by collaboratively engaging with Crick researchers and science technology platforms (STPs) to foster innovation.

Our main areas of expertise are:

  • Stem cell biology: reprogramming of iPSC lines from primary cells; comprehensive quality control (pluripotency, differentiation potential, genetic stability); pluripotent stem cell expansion and banking; development of PSC-derived bespoke in vitro human models.
  • Gene editing of human pluripotent stem cells: experimental design, pooled editing, subcloning, genotyping, and clone production in collaboration with GeMS.
  • Organoid Technologies: primary tissue processing; organoid derivation, expansion, and banking; quality control; development of bespoke 3D models.

Beyond technical expertise, we foster a highly collaborative working environment for researchers across the Crick by providing:

  • Dedicated lab spaces for human PSCs work.
  • Hands on training on pluripotent stem cells and primary organoids
