Education outreach

Children learning in our Discovery Lab.

Standard content

I really value the support and time you give to us and want to say a big thank you for offering such amazing workshops. All the children adored it, they came away buzzing about being tiny scientists. It was fantastic, I would love to have the Crick staff back in school again.

Today's young people are surrounded by so many incredible discoveries and enormous technology advances. But with a shortage of students in the UK taking up careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), helping young people understand, challenge and embrace science and inspire them towards science-related careers has never been more important.

We are passionate about providing amazing opportunities to bring science to life for young people. We strive to give them a positive experience of science and STEM professionals, that builds year-on-year into a broad understanding of the way that science is relevant to everyday life and how STEM qualifications open the doors to a range of careers.

Developed alongside teachers and leading science education organisations, our programme aims to engage the 20,000+ young people at state schools in our home borough of Camden, along with their teachers and families. We work with primary and secondary schools, hospital schools, special schools and pupil referral units.

We run a range of interactive and inclusive activities for children aged between 5-18 in schools within Camden. These take place either in schools, the Crick’s Weston Discovery Lab – our dedicated on-site space for students, or our Discovery Zone within Regent High School. Activities include hands-on investigation, discussion events, work experience and teacher development.

We also work with schools outside Camden by providing training and resources to our staff who would like to take activities further afield.
