Crick Lecture

Crick Lectures

Crick Lectures are delivered by leading internationally-renowned scientists from the Francis Crick Institute and elsewhere and cover the full spectrum of biomedical research. They aim to be relatively accessible to scientists in all biomedical disciplines, whilst also offering something for the specialist.

The talks are open to scientists from other institutes and universities from across London and beyond. You should have a minimum of graduate-level biological knowledge to attend and fully engage with these talks. Please pre-register if you would like to attend. Find out more

Robert J Wilkinson trained in medicine in Cambridge and Oxford universities and at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital, London. He undertook postdoctoral research at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland OH and at Imperial College before moving to Cape Town in 2004.

Before joining the Crick, Robert was a Medical Research Council (MRC) Programme Leader in the Division of Mycobacterial Research at the MRC National Institute for Medical Research in London and remains a Wellcome Senior Fellow in Clinical Science at Imperial College London. Both posts are seconded to the University of Cape Town where Wilkinson is an Honorary Professor and directs that university's Wellcome Centre for Infectious Diseases Research in Africa.

Robert's present research interests include clinical and immunological aspects of tuberculosis. His Tuberculosis Laboratory at the Crick is investigating the interaction between tuberculosis and the immune response to find better ways to treat the disease, particularly in people who also have HIV.

Wilkinson has co-authored around 295 articles and reviews on infectious diseases with emphasis on tuberculosis.
