This seminar will introduce basic concepts in microscopy with an emphasis on fluorescence.
The first half will cover magnification, resolution, and optical sectioning approaches including deconvolution, confocal, and multiphoton microscopies. After the break we will cover the use of filters in fluorescence microscopy, followed by brief introductions to FRAP, FRET, FLIM, and super-resolution methods.
Course objectives: Provide basic concepts and background for understanding current methods in fluorescence microscopy and their experimental use. Ideal for people who are just getting started, or those who wish to deepen their understanding.
