Light Microscopy area at the Crick.

Introduction to optical sectioning

Part of the series of introductory seminars on light microscopy techniques from the Crick Advanced Light Microscopy (CALM) team, running 15 October - 10 November 2019.

This seminar aims to demystify, compare and contrast different optical sectioning methods and help you understand how to choose the optimal method for your experiments.

Confocal microscopy is one of the most popular methods available to image fluorescently labelled samples. It can provide high quality optically sectioned images but is it the best choice for your biological questions when you have other methods such as TIRF, lightsheet and multiphoton microscopy available to you at the Crick? This seminar will introduce some of the strengths and weaknesses of the different optical sectioning methods and help you decide which is likely to give you the best results for your experiments.
