Microscope optics for biologists

This practical session will cover basic principles of geometric optics as applied to light microscopy.

Working in pairs, students will use Thorlabs components to explore common optical assemblies including image formation, conjugate image planes, infinity space, and the arrangement of lenses in a compound microscope.

Through these exercises students will gain a deeper understanding of how basic and advanced microscopes work. Due to the hands-on nature of this course, space is limited.
